Be safer as we enter a deadly driving period

Once again, it’s hot in Atlanta. With summer 2025 just ahead, vacationers and tourists flock to our city for some sophisticated Southern fun. While Memorial Day — the unofficial start of summer — is still a couple of weeks away, it also heralds a dangerous time of driving in the United States.

Nicknamed the “100 Deadliest Days,” the period that begins on Memorial Day weekend and ends with Labor Day in September is a time of increased accidents on the highway. Unfortunately for the youngest drivers, far too many of these wrecks end in one or more traffic fatalities.

What makes it so deadly for teens?

In a word, inexperience. Teen drivers are newly licensed and naturally high-spirited. They love nothing more than to pack the car with rowdy friends and go cruise around. The combination of lack of driving experience and the exuberance of friends is a deadly mix when it comes to driving.

But teens aren’t the only ones who are at risk. Every motorist and passenger on the road with reckless or impaired drivers face heightened risks of being injured or killed in an auto accident.

Other factors that make summer so dangerous

An increase in traffic means an uptick in auto accidents, and the roads are thronged with cars, trucks and other vehicles. Summer is the time for many celebrations, including the Fourth of July and its varied celebrations. Many of these parties include drinking alcohol or indulging in illegal drugs.

If the partyers then get into the car and attempt to drive home, highway carnage can result. If you get injured in a collision this summer, you may need to file a claim for damages to cover your losses.
